    Rule Change

A rule change was proposed and passed last night at the draft order meeting. The new rule allows any victory (points, head to head or playoffs) to permit a team to change their name if it had been previously changed by a last place finish.

    2023 Wrap Up

    1. Brighton Bruisers 506 points: Landing Christian McCaffrey (132 points), the highest scoring player in 2023, with the 4th pick helped make this a great roster. Hit on his first 5 picks with A.J. Brown (89 points), Chris Olave (64 points), Breece Hall (85 points) and Lamar Jackson (80 points). Surprisingly only finished 2nd in RB points despite having the best two best RBs in the league. He obviously was only starting two RBs while others were starting three. Also finished 4th at WR. Got a little cute starting Baker Mayfield (78 points) at the end of the season and almost blew it. Only took him 18 years to win it.

    2. US Americans 498 points: Hit on his first two picks with Josh Allen (119 points and #1 QB) and Stefon Diggs (74 points). Snagging Alvin Kamara (71 points) at the top of the 5th round and Isiah Pacheco (57 points) in the 6th round helped his zero RB draft strategy work out, finishing 6th at the position despite the pain of the bust that was Rhamondre Stevenson (36 points), his 3rd round pick. Managed to get decent production juggling Tee Higgins (30 points) and Christian Kirk (42 points) at the second WR spot, despite middling production from both. Had the 2nd ranked defense. Solid season.

    3. Superbowl Bound 489 points: WRs were the story of this team, led by 1st rounder Tyreek Hill (118 points and #2 WR) and 4th rounder Keenan Allen (83 points) who had himself a career year at age 31. Drake London (41 points) was solid as a third WR and Dean ended up finishing 1st at the position. Justin Herbert (64 points) was a bit of a bust as a 2nd round pick but stealing Joe Mixon (70 points) in the 3rd round helped make up for it. Most of this team was pretty middling overall, but the elite WR group was good enough to help him finish 3rd.

    4. Manginas 486 points: A very solid first 5 draft rounds put this team in contention. Jalen Hurts (99 points) was the #3 QB and Travis Etienne Jr. (80 points) was the best pick in the 3rd round of the draft. Brandon Aiyuk (70 points) was a steal in the 5th round and Amari Cooper (69 points) the second best pick in the 4th round. Hung with Jason Myers (55 points) at PK all year and finished second at the position. Would have finished higher in the order if not for Josh Jacobs (48 points) being a bust of a 2nd round pick. No great late round picks to speak of but a really good draft otherwise.

    5. Sactown Shrimpers 486 points: Went with a zero RB draft strategy that might have worked out if 1st rounder Patrick Mahomes (76 points) had been better. Garrett Wilson in the 2nd round and Najee Harris (49 points) in the 3rd weren't great, but Deebo Samuel (66 points) and DJ Moore (78 points) were great picks in the 4th and 5th rounds. Grabbing Kyren Williams (82 points) in the first waiver was the best waiver pick of the year and helped what would have been a pretty average RB group (Jonathan Taylor (43 points) and James Cook (64 points)) finish 4th at the position. A top 3 QB would have made this team a winner.

    6. Stumps 479 points: This team was in contention for two reasons: Stud WRs CeeDee Lamb (123 points and the #1 WR) and Mike Evans (75 points, a steal the 6th round), and the best kicker in the league, Brandon Aubrey (67 points). Austin Ekeler (44 points) was a 1st round bust, and he only got about half of 7th round steal D'Andre Swift's (55 points). Kirk Cousins (55 points) was the #3 QB in the league when he got hurt in week 8, and Geno Smith (63 points) failed as a replacement. Finished 11th at QB and RB.

    7. G Practice Unit 474 points: An injury to Justin Jefferson (65 points), who was the #3 WR when he got hurt in week 5, really hurt this team. Waited until the 7th round to draft Tua Tagovailoa (84 points), steal at that spot. Travis Kelce (58 points) was a little disappointing as a 2nd rounder. A really solid team that needed a superstar to contend.

    8. Pillow Biters 461 points: A team headlined by some brilliant draft and waiver picks, including: Amon-Ra St. Brown (105 points) in the 1st, David Montgomery (51 points) in the 8th, Nico Collins (78 points) in the 9th, Brock Purdy (93 points) in the 13th, and C.J. Stroud (82 points) in the second waiver wire. Offset by the worst rushing attack in the league led by 4th rounder Aaron Jones (35 points) and massive 2nd round bust Dameon Pierce (16 points). Only scored 18 points on defense.

    9. Team Whitey 454 points: Hurt by an injury to 2nd rounder Joe Burrow (44 points), Matthew Stafford (73 points) couldn't make up the shortfall. 4th rounder Alexander Mattison (24 points) was a bust but getting Raheem Mostert (72 points) in the 8th and Rachaad White (79 points) in the 5th round made up for it, so much so that he had the #1 rushing attack (often starting a 3rd RB). WR was another story... Gambled and lost on Cooper Kupp (43 points) in the 3rd. Lucked into getting #5 WR Puka Nacua (86 points) in the first waiver but only started him 8 times. Finished 11th at WR even with 1st rounder Davante Adams (71 points) who he acquired in a trade with Special Ed/Rob. Only scored 32 points at kicker, good for 12th at the position.

    10. Whiskey Rebellion 426 points: The derailing began when 1st rounder Nick Chubb (6 points) tore his ACL in week 2. Even with 2nd rounder Saquon Barkley (66 points) as his top RB he never could find somone to man that 4th slot. 3rd rounder Jaylen Waddle (49 points) and 11th round steal Michael Pittman Jr. (68 points) were solid, but not enough. Drafted back to back QBs Dak Prescott (110 points) and Justin Fields (54 points) and started both of them to the tune of 112 points (2 more than Prescott scored), but drafting another RB or WR in the 4th round might have worked better. Snagged De'Von Achane (56 points) in the 3rd waiver but only started him 6 times for 20 points.

    11. Abusement Park 422 points: A story of busts and mismanagement. 1st rounder Ja'Marr Chase (72 points) was just okay, but Joe Burrow getting hurt killed his value. 2nd rounder Derrick Henry (73 points) was solid. After that it gets dicey. 4th rounder Trevor Lawrence (72 points) wasn't great. Drafted Jordan Love (92 points) in the 10th round but didn't start him enough and he finished 10th at the position. Never found anyone capable of manning the two flex spots. 5th rounder Christian Watson (25 points) and 6th rounder Miles Sanders (10 points) were busts. Had the #6 kicker, Harrison Butker (57 points) but only scored 37 points at kicker, good for 11th at the position. Had the #1 ranked defense with 53 points.

    12. Golden Holes 403 points: Other than 1st rounder Bijan Robinson (73 points) and 9th rounder Jared Goff (94 points), this was an abysmal draft, highlighted by 3rd round bust Deshaun Watson (21 points). Fleeced Claude on a trade for Davante Adams (71 points, of which he got 40 points), giving up Tony Pollard (58 points, of which Claude got 30 points). Finished dead last a WR with 107 points, led by 4th rounder Tyler Lockett (47 points) and Zay Flowers (44 points). Dead last in both most possible points (559) and efficiency (72%), a lethal combo.
